The Last Hours of "Urban Gospel" on 94.9

KHLR 94.9 Maumelle AR with the Hallelujah FM format three hours before it flips to "variety hits" format of "Tom FM" (a Jack FM clone).

No midnight switch for Clear Channel for its 94.9 and 106.7 stations. They are still playing the "Tom" format on 106.7 and the Urban Gospel on 94.9 this morning.

That all changes at Noon (12pm/1700 UT) when the stations swap formats. No word on if the stations will swap calls at that time or soon after also.

KHLR-2 (IBOC/"HD" radio subchannel 2) is still playing smooth jazz and still displaying a static "Peter White Dreamwalk" since at least this past weekend. KHLR-1 is still running the "SaveYourRadio.Org" crawler during ad breaks and a promo for its smooth jazz HD-2 stream aired just three hours before its possible demise!

Another thing. Why is it that radio programmers insist on calling a format that appeals to African-Americans "Urban"? Why isn't country stations called "Rural Contemporary"???

Bottom line in Lincoln County...listeners to Hallelujah (KHKN as of noon today) in Grady, and Star City will find themselves out in the cold in a few hours without a sensitive tuner and outdoor antenna. Gould listeners will be SOL since the transmitter for adjacent-channel KXFE 106.9 is just outside of town. "Tom" will gain new listeners in the car county-wide and will be heard for the first time in cars in Dumas, and Monticello. This is because KHLR 94.9 transmits from Redfield AR on the KASN tower (shared by KASN and KETS). Cars equipped with IBOC-FM decoders ("HD radio") may be able to receive the digital signals of 94.9 and the subchannel in Northern Lincoln County.
